There is more than one way
to bend a
Tortilla!

Mamacita's mother, Senora Francisca Urvina Delahantry, delighted
Opera stars and artists in early day Tucson, Arizona,
with her Latin American delicacies at The Hotel de la Nogales.
Circa 1900, Tio Cresencio Urvina decided what his patrons at
"La Casa Blanca Cafe" needed, along with a 5 cent Cigarro and
10 cent Tequila, was a portable snack or
Mexican sandwich - the TACO was born.

Years later, Mamcita and Eduardo, charged with their forebearers'
red chile blood and armed with a legacy of famed Sonora recipes, opened
"The Arizona Zarape" in Tucson. Then westward ole to California
where the original "Tortilla Flats" was established. To this day,
Tortilla Flats located on Lake Mission Viejo carries on the traditions
begun so long ago as Mamacita continues to create her renowned
tamales and other especialidades daily.

Established in 1949, Tortilla Flats is a magnificent Mexican hacienda,
thanks to Ellen and Steve Levinson. Ellen's murals depict scenes
from the Levinsons' extensive travels from the seashores to the mountains
of Mexico, while also gathering famous recipes.
